Robert J. Giardina was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer in March 2010. Mr. Giardina has served as a director since March 19, 2010 and was previously a member of our Board of Directors from March 2006 until March 2008. From September 2009 to March 2010, Mr. Giardina was employed as the Chief Executive Officer of JTL Enterprises. Mr. Giardina originally joined the Company in 1981 and served as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1992 to 2001, and as Chief Executive Officer from January 2002 through October 2007.
Terry Kew
Chief Operating Officer
Terry Kew joined Town Sports in April 2012 as Chief Operating Officer following more than 20 years of fitness operations and management experience at multi-unit fitness companies, including the global fitness company Fitness First, where he spent eight years serving as COO before being promoted to the Global Senior Executive team in 2008. During his 14 year tenure, he was responsible for managing revenue growth, optimizing costs and improving the member experience. Under Terry's leadership, Fitness First achieved more than $1 billion in revenue across 21 countries, 540 clubs, and one million members.
Paul Barron
Chief Information Officer
Mr. Barron joined Town Sports International in February 2011 as Chief Information Officer. Most recent to Town Sports, Mr. Barron was vice president of global accounts for Newmarket International, the leading software company for hospitality sales automation. Mr. Barron was responsible for developing and implementing key business strategy to drive organizational growth. Prior to his tenure at Newmarket, he served as vice president of IT solutions, property operations at Starwood Hotels and Resorts. Mr. Barron led a team of IT professionals in delivering solutions and lifecycle management in 900 properties across 100 countries, with a particular emphasis on technologies used directly by the customer. He was also responsible for the technologies that supported several corporate functions including sales, brand marketing and business development. While at Starwood, Mr. Barron led the implementation of Starwood's most recent CRM system as well as the company's first intranet.
Nitin Ajmera
Vice President of Accounting
Nitin joined Town Sports in November 2008 as the Director of Accounting and was appointed Senior Director of Accounting in August 2009 and Vice President of Accounting in September 2010. Prior to joining Town Sports, Nitin worked for Schenker Inc for the last ten years as Director of Business Support Services. He was responsible for financial reporting and analysis including audits, taxes, budget, KPI and manager reporting. His second portfolio included financial systems (SAP) and all inbound and outbound interfaces and links to various technologies like Oracle, Concur, IXOS, Kronos, and ADP and legacy operational systems. In his third portfolio, he headed administration departments of purchasing, payroll, travel and customer and vendor information systems. Nitin holds an MBA in Finance and MIS from Drexel University.
Kelley Bubolo
Vice President of Sales
Kelley has been in the sales and fitness industry for more than 16 years. Kelley joined Town Sports International in 1997 as a Membership Consultant and quickly developed as part of the sales management team. Prior to being promoted in 2001 to Senior Director of Sales, she worked in TSI's Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. markets as an Area Sales Manager and Regional Director. Kelley holds a Bachelor's Degree from State University of New York at Oneonta.
Karl Derleth
Vice President of Facilities
Mr. Derleth joined Town Sports International in 1994 as Regional Director of Operations. He has held several positions within the organization, primarily in Operations. He was appointed to his current role in 2003. Mr. Derleth holds a Bachelor of Science from Springfield College. Prior to joining Town Sports International Mr. Derleth held positions in Sales, Customer Service and operations for Cardio-Fitness Corporation and Doral Hotels & Resorts.
Daniel Gallagher
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Gallagher joined Town Sports International in February of 1999 as Vice President - Finance and became Chief Financial Officer on April 1st, 2008. He is a former Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York and holds a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Villanova University. Mr. Gallagher began his career with Coopers and Lybrand in the Business Assurance Practice (audit). After the merger of Coopers and Lybrand with PricewaterhouseCoopers, his career continued in a management role. He joined the Mergers and Acquisition Consulting Group in 1998.
Margaret Houren
Vice President of Information Services
Ms. Houren joined Town Sports International in April of 1999 as the Controller and Vice President of Accounting and became Senior Vice President of Information Services in November 2009. A graduate of St. Norbert College with a Bachelors degree in Accounting, she also holds a Masters degree in Finance from the American Graduate School of International Management. Ms. Houren began her career with NCR Corporation as an Auditor and then moved to Pepsico where she held several positions of increasing responsibility. Immediately prior to joining Town Sports, Ms. Houren served as CFO for Levmark Corporation and as Director of Accounting Services for Cendant Corporation.
David Kastin
Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary
Mr. Kastin joined Town Sports International in 2007, following a legal career of fifteen years in government, private law firm, and in-house counsel positions. David began his professional career in 1992 as a Staff Attorney with the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission in New York. After holding an Associate position in Corporate and Securities law with Bryan Cave LLP in New York, he joined Toys "R" Us, a NYSE company with 1,500 stores and $12B in annual revenues, as Corporate Counsel and was promoted to Vice President/Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary in 2004. David is a graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York, where he received his JD and The George Washington University, Washington D.C., where he graduated with a B.B.A. degree in Finance. He is admitted to the NJ and NY Bar Associations and the Federal Bar Association.
Rick Bouza
Vice President of Operations
Rick joined TSI in July 2011 as Regional Vice President for the North and South regions. Prior to joining TSI, Rick ran a successful consulting company providing turn-around solutions to fitness clubs across the country. Before that, he held a number of key leadership roles with Crunch Fitness, American Leisure Management and Equinox. Rick's background crosses all aspects of our business from sales to operations to fitness and we are excited to leverage his considerable experience to help us drive success across the organization.
Mr. Ruta was appointed Vice President of Fitness effective December 31, 2012. Chris is a veteran of the fitness industry with more than 30 years of fitness operations and management experience. He originally joined Town Sports in 1994 as Senior Director of Operations and served in a broad spectrum of fitness and operations roles over 16 years. He has a Masters Degree in Exercise and Physiology.
Kieran Sikso
Vice President of Finance
Kieran started with Town Sports in September 2006 as the Director of Financial Reporting and was appointed Vice President of Finance in September 2011. Prior to joining Town Sports, Kieran had over 10 years of accounting experience in both the public and private practice, including the entertainment, publishing, private equity and manufacturing industries. She began her career in the assurance practice at Arthur Andersen, LLP. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Fairfield University and is a Certified Public Accountant in the States of Connecticut and New York.
Todd Shugarman
Vice President of Real Estate
Todd started with Town Sports in October 2011. He brings more than 20 years of comprehensive real estate development, strategic site selection, and design and construction experience to the position. His resume includes growing companies such as Blue Tulip and Balducci's, in addition to larger retailers like Tricon and Starbucks. Shugarman most recently served as the senior vice president of the Virginia-based company Sunrise Senior Living, operators of 316 senior living communities located in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
Ed Trainor
Vice President of Fitness, Services and Product Development
Mr. Trainor joined Town Sports International in1983 as Director of Fitness and Services. In 1991 he was promoted to his current position. Mr. Trainor holds a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Physical Education. Prior to joining Town Sports International, Mr. Trainor was a tenured teacher and coach in the Maryland school system and managed a corporate fitness facility in Washington D.C.
