Alexander A. Alimanestianu joined us in 1990 and became Executive Vice President, Development in 1995 and Chief Development Officer in January 2002. He became President and Chief Development Officer in March 2006 and Chief Executive Officer in November 2007. From 1990 to 1995 Mr. Alimanestianu served as Vice President and Senior Vice President. Before joining us, he worked as a corporate attorney for six years with one of our outside law firms. Mr. Alimanestianu has been involved in the development or acquisition of virtually all of our clubs.
Martin Annese
Chief Operating Officer
Marty Annese joined Town Sports International after 27 years of experience leading large, rapid-growth, International Corporations. In 1983 Marty was recruited by PepsiCo where he began his 14-year career in the International Restaurant Division. In his first Executive Operating role, Marty led the immediate turnaround of the Taco Bell Canada business, growing average store sales per store by over $550,000 in 3 years.
In 1997 Marty was recruited by Starbucks Coffee Company as Vice President, Northeast Zone and was responsible for brand and market development. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2000 and, in 2001, was recognized for his excellence in leadership and team development with the President's Award from the Company CEO. Turnover reached an all-time low while internal promotions achieved an all-time high under Marty's leadership.
Kelley Bubolo
Northern Region - Vice President of Fitness, Sales & Operations
Kelley has been in the sales and fitness industry for more than 16 years. Kelley joined Town Sports International in 1997 as a Membership Consultant and quickly developed as part of the sales management team. Prior to being promoted in 2001 to Senior Director of Sales, she worked in TSI's Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. markets as an Area Sales Manager and Regional Director. Kelley holds a Bachelor's Degree from State University of New York at Oneonta.
J. Russell Findlay
Vice-President of Sales and Marketing
Mr. Findlay joined Town Sports International in September 2009. Prior to Town Sports, he served as director of marketing for all soft drink innovation at PepsiCo. Prior to that, Findlay was director of marketing on brand Pepsi and was responsible for launching Diet Pepsi Max. Before brand Pepsi, Findlay was VP Field Marketing for Pepsi Bottling Group. In this role he was responsible for leveraging brand marketing tactics to help drive top line revenue. Prior to his role at Pepsi Bottling Group, Findlay helped launch and subsequently ran the $1 billion Sierra Mist brand, and had integral involvement in notable marketing elements as multicultural marketing strategy, sports marketing strategy and advertising and media strategy. Findlay started with PepsiCo in innovation prior to moving to PepsiCo acquisition South Beach Beverages (SoBe), to launch and run Mr.Green, SoBe's first soft drink. While working on advertising and media for the various brands he led, Findlay oversaw numerous Super Bowl advertising campaigns, two of which won EFFIE awards for effective advertising. Findlay began his career at Unilever holding a myriad of roles over a 10-year period. Beginning as a territory sales representative, he progressed through various sales roles of increasing responsibility. By the end of his tenure at Unilever, Findlay's experiences had included sales management, category management, innovation, direct marketing, digital media, consumer promotion, interactive marketing, and trade marketing.
Matt Daniel
Vice-President of Club Services
Mr. Daniel joined Town Sports International in 2001 as a Club Manager in the Philadelphia region. His career progressed to Senior Director of Club Support and then to his current position as Vice-President of Corporate Operations in 2004. Mr. Daniel holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia and a Masters of Business Administration from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Prior to joining Town Sports International, Mr. Daniel worked 5 years with Andersen Consulting and 2 years with a software startup.
Karl Derleth
Vice-President of Facilities
Mr. Derleth joined Town Sports International in 1994 as Regional Director of Operations. He has held several positions within the organization, primarily in Operations. He was appointed to his current role in 2003. Mr. Derleth holds a Bachelor of Science from Springfield College. Prior to joining Town Sports International Mr. Derleth held positions in Sales, Customer Service and operations for Cardio-Fitness Corporation and Doral Hotels & Resorts.
Rich Destasio
Vice-President of Regional Fitness
Mr. Destasio joined TSI in 1997 as a floor trainer at the Mamaroneck location. Prior to TSI, he worked in the field of Restaurant Management as a consultant and then entered into the Fitness Industry as an independent trainer. Mr. Destasio has had a long career at TSI; he has been a Master trainer, Fitness Manager, General Manager, Area Fitness Manager, Regional Director of Programs and Services and Regional Director of Sales.
Raymond Dewhirst
Vice-President of Development and Real Estate
Mr. Dewhirst joined Town Sports International in 1992 as an Assistant Manager in the company's Boston Sports Clubs. In 1993 he was promoted to the position of Development Manager, in 1996 he became Development Director and in 1999 he was appointed to his current position. Mr. Dewhirst holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Ohio Wesleyan University and has pursued Graduate Studies in Business at Boston University. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Dewhirst was the Director of Development for a small development company in southern New England and he has been involved in the health club and real estate development industry since 1985. Mr. Dewhirst has been an active member of ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) since 1990.
Daniel Gallagher
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Gallagher joined Town Sports International in February of 1999 as Vice President - Finance and became Chief Financial Officer on April 1st, 2008. He is a former Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York and holds a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Villanova University. Mr. Gallagher began his career with Coopers and Lybrand in the Business Assurance Practice (audit). After the merger of Coopers and Lybrand with PricewaterhouseCoopers, his career continued in a management role. He joined the Mergers and Acquisition Consulting Group in 1998.
Margaret Houren
Vice-President, Controller
Ms. Houren joined Town Sports International in April of 1999 in her current position. A graduate of St. Norbert College with a Bachelors degree in Accounting, she also holds a Masters degree in Finance from the American Graduate School of International Management. Ms. Houren began her career with NCR Corporation as an Auditor and them moved to Pepsico where she held several positions of increasing responsibility. More recently Ms. Houren served as CFO for Levmark Corporation and as Director of Accounting Services for Cendant Corporation.
David Kastin
Senior Vice-President, General Counsel and Secretary
Mr. Kastin joined Town Sports International in 2007, following a legal career of fifteen years in government, private law firm, and in-house counsel positions. David began his professional career in 1992 as a Staff Attorney with the U. S. Securities and Exchange Commission in New York. After holding an Associate position in Corporate and Securities law with Bryan Cave LLP in New York, he joined Toys "R" Us, a NYSE company with 1,500 stores and $12B in annual revenues, as Corporate Counsel and was promoted to Vice President/Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Secretary in 2004. David is a graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York, where he received his JD and The George Washington University, Washington D.C., where he graduated with a B.B.A. degree in Finance. He is admitted to the NJ and NY Bar Associations and the Federal Bar Association.
Timothy Keightley
Vice President of Fitness
Mr. Keightely joined us in May 2005. Prior to this Mr. Keightley has a varied business and fitness background ranging from an Officer in the British Royal Marine Commandoes, Professional Golfer, International Aerobics & Fitness Presenter and Personal trainer to the stars. Since 1999 Mr. Keightley worked through the ranks of Fitness First UK delivering the first successful UK based in-house staff Training Academy, building Europe's largest Personal Training business within three years. He was the first Fitness based executive to be granted a position on the board of directors within the UK industry.
Cheryl Mueller Jones
Vice-President of Programs and Services
Ms. Jones joined Town Sports International in 2000 as Director of Special Programs, responsible for creating and delivering Sports Clubs for Kids programs at select club locations. In 2001, she assumed responsibility for Town Sports International's Group Exercise and Training and Development Departments as a Senior Director. Ms. Jones was promoted to Vice President of Programs and Services in 2002, managing Fitness, Personal Training, Massage, Racquet Sports, Group Exercise, Training & Development and Sports Clubs for Kids Departments. A graduate of the University of Virginia, she began her career as a Creative Director in advertising and design and has 25 years of fitness industry experience in all aspects of fitness management.
Richard Marshall
Southern Region Vice President of Fitness, Sales & Operations
Rick joined TSI in 2008 following an operations career of twenty plus years in the food and beverage business. After graduating from Michigan State University in 1984 Rick began his managerial career with Houlihan's Old Place in Milwaukee as the Manager. In 1987, he became General Manager of Olive Garden Restaurant where over the next six (6) years he managed restaurants in Maryland, Ohio, and Michigan. In 1993, Rick accepted a position with Starbucks Coffee Company and was promoted quickly from Store Manager to District Manager and then Regional Supervisor of Northern Virginia and North Carolina. In 2005, he became Director of Business Operations for their Eastern Division and then onto Regional Director positions in San Francisco and Beijing, China. Most recently, he was promoted to Regional Vice President for Starbucks Mid-Atlantic area.
David Mercado
Vice President of Finance
David joined TSI in 2008 following a financial career of twenty years in private and public finance positions. David is a graduate of Manhattan College in New York, where he received his BS in Accounting and Information Systems. He also earned his CPA in New York. David began his professional career in 1985 with KPMG Peat Marwick in New York. In 1989, he became Financial Planning Manager for Sports Illustrated, and in 1992, he accepted the promotion to Director of Finance with Time Warner's Music Sound Joint-Venture. In 1997, David accepted the Director of Finance position with Bloomingdales Direct, the internet and catalog division of Bloomingdales, and in 1999, he was promoted to Vice President/CFO of that Company.
Jim Rizzo joined Town Sports International in February 2007 as Senior Vice President/Human Resources. Prior to Town Sports, he was Vice President/Human Resources for Duane Reade Inc. where as a member of the Company's strategic executive committee, he has planned and implemented the initiatives to recruit, hire, train and staff the Company's rapid expansion in an inner-city retail market. He was responsible for all Human Resources activities, organizational issues, benefits, wage and salary, labor planning and analysis and communications for this $1.8 billion dollar retail drug chain. Before Duane Reade he was President/C.O.O. for Holbrook-Patterson Inc, and for Childcraft, Inc. a subsidiary company of The Walt Disney Corp.. He also was President of Personnel Systems Company and held senior Human Resource positions with Talbots Inc., Hit or Miss Stores and the Melville Corporation. Jim holds a degree from Northeastern University.
Christopher Ruta
Eastern Region - Senior Vice President of Fitness, Sales & Operations
Mr. Ruta joined Town Sports International in September of 1994 as an Area Operations Manager. In 1998 he was promoted to Senior Director of Operations responsible for Connecticut, Northern New Jersey and Westchester NY, and in 2001 to the oversight of all New York City Operations. In 2007, Mr. Ruta was promoted to Senior Vice President with responsibility for all company membership sales. Prior to joining Town Sports International, Mr. Ruta was a General manager and Vice President with Cardio-Fitness and Herald Square. Mr. Ruta holds a Masters of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Wisconsin.
Ed Trainor
Vice-President of Fitness, Services and Product Development
Mr. Trainor joined Town Sports International in1983 as Director of Fitness and Services. In 1991 he was promoted to his current position. Mr. Trainor holds a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Physical Education. Prior to joining Town Sports International, Mr. Trainor was a tenured teacher and coach in the Maryland school system and managed a corporate fitness facility in Washington D.C.
